Borderline Personality Disorder, experience?
Question:
Answers:
Would your feelings towards your Friend alter if he/she did?
People with BPD's are often very demanding and draining on friendships. But I have found that being honest towards them, and making them aware of their behaviour can have many positive effects.
Borderline personality disorders can be treated, but can take a very long time, and a lot of hard work.
Don't give up on your Friend!! Good luck x
Other Answers:
BPD people usually start having symptoms by early adulthood and have to have at least 5 out 9 symptoms including a pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self image and affects, as well as impulsiveness.
they can have frantic efforts to aovid being alone, unstable realationships, suicidal, irritible, feelings of emptiness, inappropriate anger, paranoid thoughts
If they have most of these they need meds to stabalize and therapy as well.
GOOD LUCK!
I had an Ex girlfriend with BPD, found out the hard way. Only a medical professional can tell for sure, but look for sudden, often violent mood swings; paranoid delusions (i.e. highly jealous/suspicious to the point of looking behind furniture); "stalking" behavior; bizarre and/or grandiose "plans"; a propensity to 'hide things', weird and often useless stuff. Regular substance abuse and of course, attempted suicide (usually badly attempted). This is based on my personal experience only. Get someone of authority to gently guide your friend toward counseling or, you can almost guarantee, the police will see to it eventually (my 'friend' was carted off in handcuffs). And be careful; these people can be very dangerous. its not exxist..some smart people try to show that they have bpd so people scare by him and always mark him. second sometime they think i have bpd and this thought automaticlly create all surounding environment. some time we think this perosn have bpd problem but in real may be he try to create different personality with different people..
I have BPD.
People with Borderline usually have had some major trauma in their childhood.sexual abuse. Borderlines also commonly are self mutilators.
My sister has BPD, and life with her has been a living hell. She can't function properly in life without someone to lean on, yet shes alienated everyone around her. I'm raising her children for her because she wouldn't take care of them, yet she keeps getting preg. on purpose and having more. Just shows how delusional these folks can be. She actually believes things in her own mind that are verrrrrrrry farfetched! Has a distorted sense of reality, and scared of being alone, i.e., (she will hook up with the scummiest men, and friends) She constantly surrounds herself with low-life scum so she can feel better about herself. The saddest part of it is that BPD's usually are in constant DENIAL of their illness and refuse help, or don't follow through when they do start it. Good luck with your friend. In my experience talking to, reasoning with BPD's is about as effective as pouring gas on a fire!! WOW! that is a hard one man! BPD=CONTROLLING BEHAVIOR! often times a person with this disorder will spread mis-truths about family and friends to one another! at the same time building him/herself up to be the best one in the picture. a person with BPD will also play the "victim" role when things do not go as planned. and things do not always go as planned as friends and family begin to understand they are in the midst of being controlled! it is difficult for me to understand if a person with this disorder really believes the mistruths he/she spreads. one thing is for sure and that is untreated this disorder will become worse with time and make it impossible to maintain any sort of meaningful relationship!! in my limited experience, this disorder is one of the ******* worst! if you are willing to stick around and help do yourself a favor and purchase full body protective wear! (bad joke, however you may consider talking to a professional as well) if you think you will be unable to handle such a task run for the ******* hills! RUN!!
mental illnesses are fucked up and sad! most of us would like to help the people that suffer, however this is not always practical. the mentally ill have a responsibility to function the best they can in the "sane" world. asfaras, finding out if your friend has this terrible disorder you are on the right path. research research reseach! if you are asking quetions that can only mean other friends and family have also noticed some thing is wrong. talk talk AND KEEP TALKING TO EACH OTHER! i wish you all the best.
