Sounds like you need to start researching, and I don't think this is the best forum since I doubt there are many people in the roles you need.
Well, as an advocate, you need to worry about whether what you stand for is really what the client wants. Are you trying to pursue something different? How can you stand up for the client if your views are different from theirs?
As far as legal challenges, I'm not sure what you're talking about. There could be a variety of issues.
