Should I take meds to cope with the depression of my recent miscarriage?

Last week I lost my baby @ 8 wks into my pregnancy. This was my 1st pregnancy, and although it was unplanned, I was thrilled. This has been a very trying year for my husband & I both--we're both cops & deal w/ a lot of stress. Just before I found out I was pregnant, my husband was involved in a shooting @ work. At the same time, I got assigned to a dangerous narcotics task force and started working crazy hours in really bad areas. I've always been able to handle stress pretty well, but losing this baby has crushed me. I know I have to go back to work, but I feel paralyzed by grief. I'm also still trying to cope with the constant fear for my husband's safety that his shooting has generated. I've always been against taking meds, but I gotta find a way to get out of bed and go on. I'm seeking therapy, but I know that takes time, and I'm feeling pressured to get back to work. Just looking for anyone w/ friendly advice or personal experience that might help me decide.

First off, thank you to you and your husband for doing what you do, the world needs more people like you and your husband. I just had a miscarriage too and you have to realize that it was your body telling you there was something wrong with this embryo, that it just wasn't meant to be. It will happen for you, just think about what you have right now and how lucky you are to be where you are in your life. You have a great job, a great husband,.. you're luckier than alot of women out there.
Everything happens for a reason, maybe something else lay in the stars for you right now, but don't loose faith. You can get through this, God doesn't give us more than we can handle. Be strong, think positive, get back to work and catch some bad guys so you can at least keep other peoples kids in the mean time!

Is Alcoholics Anonymous a bunch af BS?

I am sorry, I too had a miscarriage once, but if you do without meds, try to, once on meds, it's awful to get off of them.
Don't forget they work in the brain, once you quit them, the brain will act funny and the withdrawal periods is HORRIBLE.
Plus if you start on ad's, wouldn't it jeopardize your job?
Stay safe!

Medication could be very helpful to you with all you are experiencing. Miscarriages are like deaths but you receive little emotional support following them. There are also hormone changes that occur. Talk to your doctor about trying an antidepressant. Good luck.
