Answers:
WHAT doctor gave you the Prozac? A family/general practitioner doctor or a PSYCHIATRIST??

What are you taking the Prozac for?

Everyone has different tolerance levels. There is not ONE PILL/MEDICATION FOR ALL! Trial & error!

when did you start taking prozac?
My doctor gave me prozac and I went nuts. I screamed and cried and got into such a manic state that I was wiping down my walls with pinesol because I could not sit down and I had to do something. I took myself off and told the doctor to go **** himself.
Prozac doesn't work for everyone! But it does take a while to work in full effect. If it's only been a short amount of time, give it a bit more time. You also might need a different dosage.
If this is a general practitioner prescribing it, go see a mental health doctor or nurse for better help.
Before taking all these godforsaken medicines, did you try any relaxing techniques. Try meditation and yoga too along with the medications if you have to take them. I am not in a position to say that its bad to take such medications because I don't know why you started taking them in the 1st place.
I'm more familiar with the older medications. But it does sound like something isn't working right. Could be side effects. Check the side effects listed on the label and talk to the pharmacist. Once you feel you have some idea what you are talking about then see your psychiatrist again. I suggest this because- all doctors but psychiatrists even more then others- tend to think they are God and you are stupid. It is best to go in knowing as much as a layperson can reasonably be expected to know. Then your doctor will treat you with more respect and be more likely to "discuss" alternatives with you. Don't ever let them just tell you what to take without discussing the pros, cons and side effects with you.
some medication can have different effects on different people, I suggest you tell your doctor about the effect those medication have on you and see what he will do.

I know, trying on different medication can be frustrating. Hang in there, you are a brave girl cuz you take action in helping yourself.
Most anti depressants do not take peak effect for about 4 weeks, so if you've just begun taking the meds give it a little time. I'm guessing the ******* means irritabiltiy. This may be a side effect from the medication, side effect usually subside within the first 2 weeks, however if it doesn't subside, or you feel like this is a side effect that you're unwilling to tolerate, than see your psychiatrist to switch your medication regimen. Don't be quick to judge all anti depressants just because one doesn't work for you; there are alot of drugs out there and sometimes, unfortunately it takes time to figure out what best works for you. If your psychiatrist knew what your "magic" medication regimen was, he would just start with it, so bare with it until you get on the right one! Prozac, although an older medicaiton is still used widely with much success. Please remember your mental health illness needs to be treated just as if you had diabetes or cardiac disease so don't let others with critical, ignorant advice deter you from taking care of your health. Medication, therapy, as well as relaxation, exercise, a well balanced diet, and adequate sleep all help with keeping you healthy. So don't be quick to drop your medication as some will imply (Viv, medication is a necessary part of treatment). Talk to your doctor about your symptoms and together you should be able to manage your health. If you get a dr (that thinks he's God) or that you feel uncomfortable with, seek another. Having a good relationship with your dr will only support your wellbeing. -a psych nurse
