Do you think that if a person commits suicide they will definitely go to hell?

Question:
I ask because depression is a sickness like cancer or any other disease and it could kill u by your own hand. So if a person is sick with depression and kills themself do u thin they would go to hell?

Answers:
The Bible is silent on the issue of suicide, but I would like to strongly urge you to focus not on the consequences of suicide but rather how to overcome suicidal feelings. I'm now an ordained evangelical minister but was on the verge of suicide after my freshman year of high school. I can say emphatically that God's grace can carry us through anything, no matter how hard, if we just trust Him. If you are asking this question about yourself, please find a friend or pastor or especially a trained counselor you can talk to. I've got a list of crisis-hotline numbers at the links below, as well as information about my own struggle. Please e-mail me at chad@jesusfreak.com if I can help. I'll be praying for you.

I believe that yes, a person does. Maybe not THE hell, but almost into a misunderstanding of what happened. It's almost like a deeper depression than what they were already in. It is a selfish act, suicide. And I've lost more than my share of people I cared about to it.

I don't believe in hell, so no, I don't believe that that would happen. However, if you are contemplating suicide, I would hope that you would seek help! You would think not, but no one knows, just pray.

Murder is a sin----that is God's temple not your body---now the bible also states that no man will go to hell that has repented in front of God----do you think you will have enough time to asked for forgivness before you die----if so----no you will not go to hell

I think that it depends on the mind set of the person. If they are in their right mind and choose to just do it..I think that it is just like murder. But, if someone really don't have control and they feel that they are going crazy and they aren't themselves then I think that it is just as you said. A sickness.

Just my opinion on the matter. I have often wondered that myself.

I believe what the Holy Book says:
It says nothing about going to hell for taking our own lives.

I don't believe anyone goes to hell. If anything, this is our hell. We learn here to be better in the next life, no matter what we have been given to learn from.

You also have to think about this: If you are an ax murderer, you probably have a mental illness (much the same as your depressed suicide). Does the ax murderer go to hell? I don't think so. I think when they die they are back to a normal consciousness and probably go through hell just thinking about what they have done. But it's all for the sake of learning something. If you don't learn, you come right back here again.

I do kinda think that if you kill yourself, you haven't learned what you were supposed to learn, so you come right back to earth and start over.

[So, if you're thinking about killing yourself (not YOU personally, Asker) ask yourself, "Do I want to just deal with this now or kill myself and have to start it all over again just to get right back to where I am?"]

no,,,i used to think so untill i became sick with depression and took medication. I was suiciadal all the time.looking back i know that if i had followed through with it i would not have been resposible for my actions, i was not im my right mind.. You can never tell what person is thinking.you can never tell what is in their heart or intentions.

God said "thou shal not kill" but he also said "as you judge so will you be judged"

I was raised in a catholic boarding school and i am still catholic. They belive that if you kill yourself you go to hell.they will not even allow you a catholic funeral.i say dont judge.dont judge untill you have been there yourself. yep you will because the bible say i shell not kill well if you KILL your self then you ain't here to get god to forgive you for it so so will go to HeII just think about it?
