Does anyone know if it is true that taking 4 pills of Prozac at one time has the same effect as Prozac weekly?

Question:
I have read that if you take regular or generic Prozac
(10mg) 4 to 5 pills at once it will have the same effect as taking one Prozac weekly pill, and would be much cheaper, but I can't find anymore information about it. Any nurses, doctors or pharmecists out there that can help? Or people that take Prozac? Thanks!

Answers:
Heck no!! Prozac weekly is specially coated, timed released to last for a whole week. Taking 4-5 regular Prozac ( of the 10 mg dose) at once won't do anything but give you one daily dose. Whoever told you otherwise was smoking something funny.....

Other Answers:
dont do it..you will get sick
NO!!!!!!!!!!...
Do not take 4 or 5 at a time. It can overdose you and kill you.
no it is not the same trust me. just ask a doctor
Not a good idea ! Try taking to a REAL doctor, not some fool on this web page.
Yeah-----It is NOT the same---the Prozac weekly extends throught the blood stream over a weeks time to produce steady state blood levels----if you took that much regular prozac at one time--you would be dumping it all in the system at one time----not a good thing. Don't do it.....
You really should speak to a doctor, preferably a psychiatrist as this would be considered psychopharmacology.

I am currently taking Prozac, 60mg per day - reduced from 80mg daily. I have never heard of a weekly pill and I am interested in learning about sustaining levels in your bloodstream on this kind of dose.

I always thought that it was similar to a diabetic needing regular insulin injections as the body metabolises everything we put into it and levels need to be maintained. Then there is the half-life of the drug to consider.

I am curious to hear other people's thoughts on this, but by my thinking I take 60mg as per instructed by my psych. with no ill effects.

Good luck!
