A friend who's thoughts get out of control?

Question:
Was told he was bipolar a while ago. I seem to be the only one who really understands him. He changes his mind over and over (extreme decisions too) and when he gets depressed he wants to just run away with no place to go and "doesn't care" but when he's on the top of the world - OMG. Of course, when he's on top of the world, he's so nice. When on the other end of it, he'll tend to make people mad at him on purpose to make himself feel better (don't understand this part). He's hurt my feelings on occasion and I know it isn't really "him" when he's normal. Anyone know much about bipolar? He won't take medication but I know he is so prone to severe depression and will do anything..which scares me to death. I know he'll get mad if I try to talk to him about this. Anyone out there with experience?

Answers:
if he wants help, he should be on meds.otherwise he'll push everyone way.but only he can help himself.I'm bi-polar and can relate.

Other Answers:
People with bipolar disorder tend to be wishy-washy and want to be left alone.Hurt feelings are a sad casualty of this disorder and you need to talk to your friend before he kills himself and/or someone else or someone will kill him.
Why won't he take medication. It really helps.

But if he won't, he needs some intense counseling. It is really hard to manage bipolar. If he is depending on you, you will really suffer. This is too hard. You should get help. If he won't get himself help, you have a good reason to help him get help. If you don't you will be used up by him.

Get professional help. Find a counselor or psychologist who will treat him without medication but who may be able to help him see clearly to the value of medication.
