i am a buddhist and i would like to know why people feel the need to ridicule others instead of accepting them

Question:

Answers:
People ridicule what they do not understand. It is easier for a person to make someone else feel bad, than to feel stupid themselves.
Remember that we are a society that supports and encourages conformity. Any outliers are sure to be ridiculed in some way.

My mother is a Buddhist and she gets a lot of ridicule from some Christians who do not understand and have no desire to learn about her beliefs. After one such incident, my mother was interested in learning about Christianity (not necessarily converting) and asked if they could get her a Bible in Laotian (her native language). They were able to find one, yet continued to insult her because she was not willing to convert. ("You're going to Hell. You will never be saved. Your life will be full of torment until you accept God.") They never once asked about Buddhism.
That's why I like Buddhists. They're very passive. If you don't believe Buddhist teachings, they're fine with that. I have yet to be approached by one Buddhist who tells me, "You will never reach Nirvana because you are not a Buddhist. You will be reincarnated as a dung beetle."

Other Answers:
because people make it so easy ti ridicule them, It's in our makeup as well to try to better our selves, you could work hard at it or you could belittle others to feel bigger.
There is no right or wrong in what you believe in as everyone has freedom of choice thats a given!
Because it makes them feel better about themselves!
unfortunately not everyone holds the same compassionate and unjudgmental attitude towards the world as us buddhists
peace be with you georgeous!!
because stupid! j/k...

I just think all people are stupid. Im not Racist. I hate every one equally
people generally only ridicule what they do not understand. They feel insecure at their lack of knowledge and this manifests itself in the form of ridicule. Shame really.
i acept others
ami ta Budha
it's because they are selfish and think that only what they themselves believe in is true. do not pay attention to what they say to you; their acceptance is not important. do as you please. do not ruin your life by thinking about their remarks
well, not many ridicule buddists because they are decent kind people.... one of the few religions that don't advocate some form of violent retribution to the non believers... fatwas, and from the christian perspective- going to burn etc in hell!
long live the nice buddhist community. Amen to that!
I suppose because they feel that your belief is a criticism of themselves. To repudiate your belief, makes them feel justified in their own lack of belief.
DAMN GOOD QUESTION!!!!!!!!... PEOPLE FEAR, WHAT THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND.
NOR,EXCEPT WHAT THEY CAN NOT CHANGE.

I BELIEVE IN MYSELF AND THE GOOD PEOPLE IN MY LIFE. I WAS A CHRISTIAN FOR A VERY LONG TIME. HOWEVER, GREW UP AND LOST FAITH IN CHURCH AND BIBLE.

THERE MAYBE A GOD. I DON'T KNOW. THERE ARE THINGS THAT SCIENCE ALONE CAN NOT EXPLAIN. SO, I'M UP IN THE AIR ABOUT THAT.

BUT, YOU ARE WHO YOU ARE AND IF YOU ARE HAPPY AND CONTENT,WHO CARES WHAT OTHER THINK OR SAY!!!!! RIGHT?
As a Buddhist I thought you would know this as it is part of the second noble truth:

The second truth is that suffering is caused by craving and aversion. We will suffer if we expect other people to conform to our expectation, if we want others to like us, if we do not get something we want, etc. In other words, getting what you want does not guarantee happiness.

The people you speak of believe that they are right and that everyone who does not conform to their vision of the truth is wrong.
In the end they can not make others believe as they do, so the first step is to ridicule, this is only the first step and the first of many that eventually lead to killing. This cause and effect is what Buddhists call Karma

Karma is the law that every cause has an effect, i.e., our actions have results. This simple law explains a number of things: inequality in the world, why some are born handicapped and some gifted, why some live only a short life. Karma underlines the importance of all individuals being responsible for their past and present actions. How can we test the karmic effect of our actions? The answer is summed up by looking at (1) the intention behind the action, (2) effects of the action on oneself, and (3) the effects on others.
no matter what your race, creed, color, religion sexual prefrence ppl have nothing better to do in thier lives but stir up trouble for those around us. they never ask questions so they dont understand so they just call us "different" or there is something wrong with them and leave it at that. the same thing applies if someone is sick or has a handicap, they are afraid to ask so they just point fingers, make faces and look the other way. its a shame in todays society we have to live with ppl some whom are our neighbors that act this way but if we look at them funny they think there is something wrong with us. i always say to everyone i dont care who you are, where you been, what you used to do,i give everyone a chance no matter who you are and maybe i will just make some friends out of the deal.
the people who ridicule others don't realize what they are doing and they refuse to accept them for who they are. we are all human and bleed the same color blood that is red.
Because they're afraid of what they don't understand or insecure about themselves so they try to bring everyone down.

It's lame but the best thing you can do is ignore them and just be nice.
I ask the same question, it dosent make u a better person to ridicule others so what the hell! it seems lilke they just like the attention
People want to feel big. It is in our nature to feel important. If we do not feel this way, the easiest way to change is to ridicule someone else.
So the enemy is not stupidity or ignorance. It is why they are feeling inadequate.
