When you've procrastinated your whole life, it's hard to change the habit -- but here's how I did it.

First, *accept* that life is hard. It's work. To be happy and have pleasure you have to endure some lousy parts and do the work.

Second, do *one* thing at a time. Don't think about the long list of things you have to do, just pick one thing and do it. When you do one thing, it builds your confidence and makes the next thing easier.

Third, do the most unpleasant stuff first. This is so liberating it's amazing. You'll be shocked at how much the day opens up ahead of you if you nail the crappy stuff first. And don't get caught up on how well you're doing it. Do the best you can, and get it done.

Fourth, don't mix up your day. Set time to work and time to play. Don't do a bit of work, then a bit of play -- you interrupt your flow. Honestly, it's better to do 2 hours of work and stop than it is to try to and work 9 hours where you're actually only getting 90 minutes of productive work in.

Finally: reward yourself. But be careful with this -- rewards have to come AFTER WORK! No "taking out loans". You only defeat yourself.

Set small goals for yourself and once you have achieved them move on to your next ones. It helped me considerably until Y!A came along and made me an answer junkie.
Take it easy, relax, chill, there's no rush, smell the roses.........when your done...............run like HELL!!!

Start with doing things you really need to do but don't mind doing because its easy. Then, that should let you wade into deeper waters as far as other obstacles. As long as you're not procrastinating on really serious things, you're okay. If you're lost majorly, go get counseling or something.

That's kind of vague, but what helps me is to make a list of all the things I need to accomplish. Then I break each one down into smaller tasks, and do one thing at a time. That way it's not so daunting.

Your nickname indicates that you drink. That may be a factor in why you feel your life is out of control.

I have that problem too. I do this and that but don't see any results.

Someone told me to make a "to do" list every day. He told me all his life he always did 12 things a day. Some were little things and some were big tasks: now he is a senior citizen wealthy and healthy managing and maintaining his own rental properties.
I find that after the first few times I get things done Immediately, i realize how much easier life can be. try doing a few small things each day that you would normally put off (i.e. making your bed in the morning, getting gas on the way to work instead of on the way home). when i do these small things i start feeling like i have more control over doing things immediately. it's all about getting in good habits, not like its a disease or anything
my suggestion is to call Dr. Laura (1800drlaura) or listen to her show on 640 AM ...radio not time of course
First you need to try and find the reason for your procrastination. Are you depressed, sick, or just bored? You could get counseling that might help if it from depression or illness. Other wise if there is no medical or mental reason. Make a to do list. Keep it simple don't write every thing you need to do down all at once. finish as many of the items you have listed. The ones you can not or did not finish carry over to the next day. This is a motivational trick that therapist use.

I know how yo feel.The only thing that has really worked is making a routine and following it,and the changing the routine every 4 days.Hope this helps!
