Can you have OCD without having the compulsive part?

Question:
Just curious.

Answers:
Hmmm .. going on semantics .. even if there is no physical compulsive behaviour, if you are full of obsessions then don't you have a compulsive need to constantly obsess?

The obsession is the thought that won't go away, and the compulsion is the behaviour or reaction to that thought .. so if you're sitting there obsessing .. or thinking about your obsession .. then I suppose that thinking is something you feel compelled to do.

Oh dear .. I'm confusing myself. I think I should go to bed now.

Other Answers:
So just Obsession? I don't see why not.

YES. I think so.

no that is the disease

I guess it wouldn't be Obsessive COMPULSIVE disorder then would it? it's a compulsive disorder, so no, you can't have OCD without being compulsive

I need more details. According to the diagnosis you can just have the obsessions (intrusive unwanted thoughts that seem uncontrollable), without compulsions (repetitive behaviors that a person feels driven to as a response to a compulsion) but it isn't common. BUT your symptoms (obsessions) must take up at least an hour of your day in order to be diagnosed.

I don't know if this helps but the short answer to your question is yes. Although I've never seen a case of ocd with just obsessions.
