what should you try if Zoloft doesnt work?
Question:
Answers:
You need to discuss this with your doc who prescribed it. Different anti-depressants don't always work the same for people. You need to try others, even a combo, to see what works the best for you.
Other Answers:
your doctor should advise u.he/she knows better than you trying to guess
Wellbutrin
prozac
You need to talk to whoever prescribed it for you. DO NOT suddenly stop taking this medication. You need to be weaned off, it can really mess you up if you suddenly stop taking it.
Well, how long have you been on the Zoloft? I think that's one of those that takes up to 6 weeks to take effect. And if it has been that long and you still don't think it is working, you can talk to your doctor and increase the dosage. You can safely go up to 200 mg a day, if not more, of Zoloft, with your doctor's monitoring. Talk to your doc, though!!
Okay, this isn't really an answer, but FYI she said it isn't for personal use. No one prescribed it to her. Try reading the question next time, people.
My Dr. thinks that Effexor xr works great. I think it works good also. But I also take paxil
Zoloft is a selective seratonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI's) These are also in the same category: Celexa, prozac, Lexapro, Paxil
These are Tricyclics :Elavil, Pamelor, Tofranil and Norpramin
wellbutrin is a seratonin and dopamine reuptake inhibitor
Cymbalta and Effexor are seratonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors
Combined reuptake inhibitors and blockers : Serzone, Remeron and desyrel
Everyone is different so not all drugs work for all fo the people or even effect people the same way at all. If zoloft was not the right drug for me I would call my local pharmacist first and ask for alternatives to ask my doc about, then call the doc.
There are so many choices now no one should stay with something that doesn't work or has debilitating side effects.
Lexapro, Effexor, Prozac, Welbutrin, Paxil the list is long my friend
seroquel (anti depressant) , alprazolam for manic state, methocarbomol (anti anxiety) divalproex/depocote (anti depressant) when I was on Zoloft I had a problem with muscular cell breakdown.
Source(s):
As stated I am manic-depressive
There are many antidepressants on the market and different ones work for different people. Some do better on Prozac. others do better on Effexor.. and still other on combinations.
One thing that is good to keep in mind about Zoloft. Stopping abruptly can cause significant side effects. it should always be tapered. and if possible tapered under a doctor's supervision. I know this one from personal experience.
A patient doesn't decide this. You must collaborate with the psychiatrist. What works for one person may have no effect on another.
different meds.
the doctor should switch medication. those types of meds are trial and error.
I loooooved Celexa. That helped me a lot. Paxil made me high. then nuts. Zoloft was too weak.
If Zoloft doesnt work then depression may not be the problem. All the MAOI's or SSRI's work very similarly so Zoloft not working but Prozac working is probably unlikely. I took Zoloft for depression/ self-mutilation but it didn't really work very well and I was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was prescribed Topomax. So I'd say to re-evaluate the patient and perhaps try a different kind of medication.
You can try wellbutrin and prozac
