Am I ever going to stop cutting?

Question:
I have been cutting for seven years now. It has gotten to the point that I am getting stitches all the time and am severing tendons from cutting too deep. I have tried many diffrent types of teatment. I have seen numerous therapists and shrinks, I have done group therapy, CBT, DBT, lived in a residential treatment facility for 2 years, been hospitalized many times, and tried to do some work on my own. I really want/need to stop, but when that urge hits I can only hold off so long before it get overwhelming and I give in. What is left for me to try?

Answers:
I Know for me the biggest key cam after I had kids. I knew I didn't want them to see this behavior. It didn't put a total stop to it but stemmed it. One thing that worked for me was an accountablity person. someone I trusted that I had to answer to everytime I cut or felt the urge to cut. It has been several years for me now but the urge does come time to time. now I tend to talk to someone before hand or I write(i write poetry). I has helped me that my husband instead of condeming me wanted to help and he became a person I could tell that I had the urges and became a partner in helping me prevent this behavior.

You have made great steps in knowing that you want to stop. that is great . to give up it can take a many tries before you get thre. when I look back I realise it took me more time than I would have liked to have become free of this.
good luck.
Maybe you should try going on a retreat. Maybe being with people dealing with the same things will help you, especially if they have overcome it. It's okay to be stressed, but knowing how to handle that stress is key. Seeing a therapist, though you've been before, out of town might be good as well. You need to find out what caused to cut in the first place, and if it's merely an addiction now. Then, find someone who can really help you. I'll pray for you.
