Is Asperger's linked to Poverty?

Question:

Answers:
It hasn't really been proved as to what causes autism. Some say genetics (there are no rich or poor DNA) others say childhood immunizations.
I didn't grow up poor, yet I have it. I'm doing alright for myself financially and yet my son has Aspergers. Yes I received excellent prenatal care during my pregnancy. Both of us didn't start showing symptoms till after we received MMR shots so I am leaning towards the vaccination theory.
There are also so many levels of autism just like there is so many different levels of intelligence in the 'regular' people. So its possible that genetics and environmental factors create the many variations of autistic people.
In that case yeah poverty might play a part....poor prenatal care, inadequate nutrition, lower income families have a higher tendency towards drug use, etc. etc. Just in the case of the people I know with it (there are far more people that have it than you might realize) poverty wasn't an issue.

Yes I hold a job, yes I have friends and yes I behave like everyone else without the help of prescriptions. My difference? Intensity and a passion for knowledge. So I consider Aspergers a blessing and I see the same wonderful traits in my son.

Other Answers:
No. Where did you get that idea from?
Friends of mine have a 6 year old son who has the disease and believe me, they are far from being at poverty level.
No,l udicrous!
from what i know about the syndrome, the only link i see with poverty is that if it's bad enough to keep a person from being able to work...but there are so many jobs that would be just fine..it's not like they are fully autistic....
Actually, there is some research that suggests that Autism Spectrum Disorders and socioeconomic status are linked. This study found that Autistic Spectrum Disorders were more common in parents that received poor prenatal care and parents who were diagnosed with a psychotic disorder (which may limit a parents ability to work or earn an income above the poverty level).

I'm not implying causation, but there is a link.
No, I would actually it seems more common in mid/ upper class whites and asians. I would say the age of the mother is the most common factor...my mother was 43 when she had me & I have sympoms of aspergers.
