how do i cope with being bipolar?

Question:
I've been diagnoised with it about 3 wks ago i recently started taking medication for it. some days i just want to be left alone and block eveyone out, and other days i feel so alone. the person to feel most my warth is my bf even though if it wasn't for him i wouldn't be getting the help i'm getting right now. he first found out about the cutting. hes on top of me about my medication. but sometimes i don't want him around. i feel like i'm the one runing our relationship. my family don't know anything about bi-polar disorder and its hard for me to explain. especially since i would have to translate a lot and i don't know all the words. they believe i'm on some experimental medication and believe i should be taking it, let alone they believe i should go to therapy. after i started the mood stablizer (depakote er) i don't have the maina that bad but i get depressed but i feel stuck cause now i can't cry anymore...how does anyone else cope with it?

Answers:
Prozac worked wonders for me and saved my marriage. Explain to your family that it is a physical sickness due to chemical imbalances, just like a diabetic needs insulin, or people with high blood pressure need medicine. You are doing what is right, and don't worry about other people's opinions. I still get a little down sometime and don't feel like being bothered, and sometimes I get lonely, too. I try to get a book to read, or go for a drive, or go to a park. The difference is that I know these feelings won't last forever and tomorrow is another day. The medicine won't make everything wonderful, but it gives me the strenght to deal with day to day issues. I have hope for the future, where before I had none. Good luck and keep taking the medicine. You are lucky you have a good boyfriend to keep on you. My husband is my life saver.

Really, the only true way to cope with this, is support, therapy and possible medication. Only a doctor can decide if the latter is necessary, but you definately need the first two to keep you and every one around you sane.
This is tough for you to be going thru. Bipolar is different for different people some get so high they are impossible to be around other go thru highs and lows and some get deeply depressed. Stay on you medication and talk to your doctor about what is going on with you. Keep working on it and give yourself time to get well this may take awhile and involve some experimenting with combinations of medication.
I tried many drugs (Lithium, Zoloft, Illegal) but found how I eat affects seratonin affects mood. Protien gives Seratonin, but ppl digest it diffferent so ask a doctor it's just me. Also Paxil seems to work good for me. Source of relief seems to be highly individualized.
well..I dont know ...either..I guess take your medicine I know it make you feel like a zombie..because I was taking care of a 7 year old just like you..and he was aweful he "cursed big time"like a sailor at all the individuals there...then he would take his medicine and he would space out and not eat..and that is not good...because he wouldnt feel like eating or doing his work..so which way do you go with him..I told his mother she needed to take him to Houston and let those specialist ..see what they could do for him..and donot let one rock unturned..till she could find him help...that could stablelize him..or at least get him close to having a normal life..
Girl the mind is a powerful tool. I for one don't believe in medication for the mind.....just exercise your mind, program it and fight the feelings that you have inside if they are negative we all have the power of self control. Get around positive people that will encourage you and uplift you, find a good church in your area that will feed your spirit....that's better than any pill a doctor can give you. Whatsoever anyone think of himself/herself so is he/she
Before you knock it just try it.....I guarantee it will work :).
