my mom is having a hard time wit my lil bro?

Question:
he has ADHD and meds aint workin what do we do 2 make him listen and is there ne thing that she could get for financial help

Answers:
Ages would be good here, but consider the following options, using your common sense for age:

1. spanking (sometimes it doesn't hurt to swat a 5 or 6 year old).

2. grounding (I ground my kids for a week-first offense-and two weeks for the 2nd. Since they don't like that, they behave).

3. take privileges away. Anything they like...take it away.

Sometimes you gotta be tough with a kid. It hurts, but medications and labels are (imho) a result of parents not using effective discipline procedures. People think you are abusing the kid, but you are not, you are helping them grow in a supportive way.

Good luck!!

there is a medication calle wellbutrin that works real good for ADHD and also a medication called provigil... might be spelled wrong,,, but pronounced---pro vig ill-----

I have two daughters with this same problem......... one does ok on her medication and one does not ........ we have to keep trying different ones to see if the work for her or not.... she did real good on wellbutrin but after about 6 to 8 months on it her hair started to thin out... we stopped it ... the dr agreed too.... and her hair started to grow back thick again.............now we're going to be trying provigil......... hopefully this will be good too...... as for finacial help, you did not mention your mother's finacial situation right now..... if your little brother is real bad where he is uncontrolable... your mother could try and apply for SSI.... especially if his ADHD gets in the way with his daily living and schooling

good luck

Positive reenforcement is key. You can spank and beat a child all you want but that only teaches the child that the behavior is wrong. It does not teach them what to do instead of the negative behavior. I have seen so many kids who have received physical punishment as way to curb bad behavior and a majority of them have aggression and issues later on. By providing positive inforcement, the child learns what behaviors should replace the negative ones. Comments like "I really like how you cleaned your room the first time I asked you to" is much more effective than scolding them for not following directions. Essentially, you are enabling them to make positive choices for themselves. Also, children respond more to positive reactions from caretakers which make them intrinsically motivated to behave in a suitable manner.

Above all, parents need to set firm limits that are consistent. For example if a child wants to watch movies at bed time and the caretaker says yes one night and the next night they say no, of course the child is going to be upset. They do not understand why they can have certain privileges some times and not others. Be firm, yet emotionally available; take time to ask why they are upset.

If these behaviors have been present for a long time, they may take a long time to change. Be patient and reward any improvements.
whip his butt, or take something from him that he likes.
