Not really. I work in a school and now all the kids are thinking it's OK to swear and say they have tourette's syndrome. The kids in school that do have it, have become "celebrities" around school which leads to people mimicking their behaviour rather than acceptance of it. Pete was devastated that Nikki left last night and his tourettes on tonight's episode was really bad. I think when he gets like this, he should be able to talk in private rather than have it broadcast across the nation. I know that's why he went in there etc and that he knows that what he does will be shown but it is unfair for people to laugh when he is so upset. People do laugh because they don't understand it.

I didn't know people lived in castles anymore..lol! (Get it? Turrets - castle). Why shouldn't they have people on the show with different problems whether they suffer from tourettes, or are deaf, dumb, blind, disabled? It's given me a greater understanding of Tourettes. (Although I have now switched off because I am very bored of it all now). I think it is helping.

How many people do you know that suffer from it - Well you do now.

Hopefully if you do meet someone with it you won't feel out of your depth anymore. How many people would have given Pete more than 30 seconds of their time, and yet now we have a greater appreciation of the condition.

I think it does bring it to the attention of the general public, I feel BB lets down the housemates they are supposed to be psychologically tested before going in but I have a feeling that will not help when they come out of the house. I think BB is doing it for entertainment value not for the emotional well being of the housemates.
If the TV wants to educate the public there are a lot of better forums out there to do it with. Soaps like Eastenders and Emmerdale deal with real life issues and we all know they are actors. But in the soaps it does make things like teenage pregnancy, Aids stuff like that into the discussion of people who don't understand it.
I feel BB is just out to sensationalise things which I feel is bad. One of the contestants that walked was on suicide watch. That says a lot to me.

Well I suppose people with Tourrettes will no longer be given strange WTF looks when twitching or talking to themselves. It may also inspire people to find out more about the condition which will decrease ignorance and be beneficial for people with Tourettes.

I think this could have gone either way. Had Pete been an unlikeable character, Tourettes could have becomes the latest and greatest thing to giggle at, and mock, but because he is a rather pleasant chap, people see it in a favourable light. As such, Pete is doing people with Tourettes a service by showing that it doesn't affect who you are as a person, and is rather nasty for the person themselves. He has raised awareness of and sympathy for this unfortunate condition.
