Does Prozac Increase The Feeling of Anxiety?

Question:
I'm feeling better emotionally now that I'm on prozac and accepted my circumstances. I don't cry or feel disparingly sad, but there's something that's having me worry now. Within busy places and sometimes when I'm totally alone, I get anxious and jittery. I can get easily agitated. But when I feel this feeling the most intensely is in the morning. I wake up and it takes a little while to shake the feeling. I don't cry, but I still have that pit in my stomach. It's getting less and less. But its noticibly there. I don't feel a 100% but I'm getting there. I still don't have much of an appitite - lost 12 pounds in the last two weeks because of this.

Answers:
It shouldn't, but with most anti-depressants they take a little time to become effective. You have to take them for several months and if you have then maybe your getting a side effect and should make your doctor aware of your anxiety so they can change, decrease, increase, or maybe add a anti-anxiety medication for you.

I'd have to say no. Check with your doctor. He needs to know what's going on with you.

In most cases you shold be on the anti-depressant and xanx also. tell your doctor.ask him about lexapro

No. Prozac is commonly used as a treatment for anxiety disorders.

You may want to talk to your Dr. about these feelings and see if there are any other suggestions. otherwise, talk to a counselor to see if you have excessive anxiety issues and how to work on them. My 2 cents is based on personal experience. I was on prozac 3 years ago. Its purpose is to increase seritonin and thus reduce depression. It is not an anti-anxiety med. As a matter of fact, many users, including myself, felt increased anxiety especially in the form of racing thoughts. Atavan is a mild anti-anxiety med that can counter the side effects of prozac. Zanax is too strong and very addictive. You also should consider reducing the dose of prozac. Finally, you need to consider how recently you began taking prozac because sometimes the side effects diminish as your body gets used to it.
