first thing to do, is be a good friend, and lisen to the person who is feeling depressed, don't act like its no big deal. do not tell the person, that all they need is to get up and get out of the house, you will feel better, it doesn't work that way, second try and get them in to the doctor, as it is not just a mental problem it could be a imblance of the chemicals in the brain, that is causing it. and there are meds that will help. did your friend just lose a parent, brother, sister, ect. going threw a divorce, talking to them as much as they need, knowing someone really does care, will help
If you don't want them to take medicine there are herbal remedies, St. Johns Wort to name one
