Very bright, intense light suddenly wakes my friend up, but nothing is ever there.?

Question:
It has happened more than once. She goes to bed, and about an hour later, she sees a bright, intense white light and shoots up out of bed, with her ears ringing. She is concerned but I can't seem to find any information about it. Anyone got any ideas?

Answers:
This has happened to me before as well. I could feel a bright light shining over me and I would find myself sitting upright in bed but it's pitch dark. I luckily don't get it anymore, but it happened in primary school. It would be quite interesting to know what causes this.

Other Answers:
Seriously speaking, your friend should see an optometrist. Seeing a bright flash of light is a symptom of detached retina. It can lead to blindness when not treated correctly and quickly.

She should also discuss this with her doctor. I am not a doctor so I'm guessing here, but the symptom suggests problem with brain function.

If your friend is telling the truth and so are you, you may be in need of a medical help.

At the least, tell the parents immediately.
maybe she has a tumor she should go to the doctor and if they don't wanna give her an answer i suggest that she keeps on and on until she gets an answer watch the show mystery diagnosis
