Why is suicide 'selfish' but for everything else 'you're on your own'?

Question:

Answers:
Technically suicide is selfish because it really hurts the loved ones left behind but for the person committing suicide it is anything but selfish. I have counselled people who considered suicide and I have wanted to commit suicide so I speak from experience. To tell someone thinking suicide thoughts they are selfish is a ridiculous ignorant thing to do. A suicidal person is usually so depressed that they honestly feel that they are horrible losers and that everyone will be better off with out them around they are in fact not thinking of themselves at the time but about their perceived injustice to their loved ones and feel that everyone will benefit from their death. I can not stand it when people call suicidal people selfish it really hits a sore spot having been there on both sides of the fence.

Other Answers:
suicide is just the easy way out! and id selfish because you hurt everyone except your self! and your not on your own because you have family!!

Cause you're only dead - the friends and family go through he!!.

You're not on your own for other things - if you don't have a good friend or relative to talk to, you can get a free counselor at the mental health clinic. Don't forget about the suicide hotline - they listen.

But what if your own your own?
I have no family left.
And No friends
But I'm not going to kill myself.
But if I did no one would really care.

I guess that state would have to bury me. That's actually a very good question. As a society and all being part of the human species, we should be willing to stand up for each other if only based on the fact that we are all here together to work on making the life around us as enjoyable and rewarding as possible. Why the majority of human beings are only out for themselves has always astounded me, especially after having a family and knowing how important it is for our kids to be raised as helpful and caring individuals towards others regardless of bloodline. This is a topic that could be discussed endlessly and unfortunately, I don't see people changing their ways any time soon to help make this a non-issue. I do understand though after looking around and experiencing life as we know it, why someone may want to do a final check out and be done with having to deal with a society of people that sometimes end up being the very cause of why we want to die in the first place. We need to want to help and build up each other if only for the sake of how it can spread out into the world around us in a positive manner, not by doing the exact opposite because in the end, no one wins a prize for being the most self-centered or uncaring person in the land. And no one gets out of here alive anyway.
