Is there anyone out there that has been a victim of auto theft?

Question:

I was working out of town and had my car stolen and vandalized.. I got it back, but the damage is so exstensive that I think it would have been better if I had not recovered it. I feel so angry about this I don't know what to do. The possibility of the local police finding the person that did this is slim to none... so I don't even have knowing that the thief is being punished to calm my anger. If this has happened to you how did you get past it?

YES! My husband and I went out for our anniversary a couple years ago and when we got out of the movies, our minivan was gone! Okay, we idiotically left the doors unlocked,a nd the windows down (DUH!), but we are used to just feeling safe where we are.
Anyway, we told the cops, and they said it's probably just some kids out joyriding. I felt like they didn't even give a crap.
They found it, and it was so messed up. The jerks stole our twin daughters' new bikes(b-day gifts) out of the back, too.
We drove it for a couple months, but then we had to junk it.
What a waste! I don't understand why the cops don't even bother to look for who was responsible. I guess since nobody was hurt, they don't consider it a priority.
I just felt so violated somehow.
Jerks.
