Problem with too much Ativan. Please answer as soon as possible!?

Question:
About 18 hours ago I had an anxiety attack and took 2 mgs of Ativan (which I thought was one, they changed my dosage apparently).12 hours later I took 2 mgs more. Apparently that was too much because I've been in bed all day. My head and body are aching. I called poison control when I discovered the dosage but they said it was nothing to worry about and not worth going to the hospital over. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of this awful feeling?I am going to my shrink on Thursday so please don't be concerned about follow up. Thank you so much! (By the way, I wasn't in any way trying to kill myself, just get past a couple of bad anxiety attacks.)

Answers:
You shouldn't have to worry, but try to manage your medication with more restraint. I feel for your problem, I once suffered from panic attacks with shocking regularity.

Drink plenty of water, rest, and get a massage if you can, a warm bath, you need some comfort.

I pray for your healing, dear one.

You'll just have to ride it out. The medication has to work out of your system on it's own.

It's already in your bloodstream if you're feeling the effects. Probably nothing you can do except wait for it to flush out of your system. Sorry man. You could call your pharmacist and see if advil or other pain medications interact with Ativan. If they don't interact, you might be able to take that to ease the pain. drink pleanty of fluids and take care until it leaves your body. When I felt better I would be on the phone telling my doctor about it!

A usual dose of Ativan can be anywhere from 2 mg to 10 mg a day so taking 4 mg in 12 hours is not excessive by any means. Meantime I find it rather hard to believe your physician increased your dosage without telling you. Were you out to lunch at that appointment or what. In addition by the time you took the second 2 mg the first 2 were gone and 4 mg of Ativan is obviously not lethal.

You did not overdose yourself, your body just is not use to that dosage.
