Does anyone know where you can buy individual medical insurance? Epileptic reasons!?

Question:
Insurance expired.

Answers:
Did you have health insurance through work and then left the job, or did a personal policy expire? If you had insurance through work, then you have 63 days to get a new job with health insurance. If you do, then the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protects you and you can’t be denied coverage from a group health plan, and the length of time you have to wait for epilepsy coverage is reduced, depending on the amount of time you were previously insured.

On the state law, side, contact your state insurance department to see what kind of legal protection you have there (link below).

I did a quick search for epilepsy support programs at Needy Meds that help with medical costs and could only find two (New Jersey and Central Florida). The link’s below. Also, it seems that there are epilepsy organizations in about every state, so just do a search.

You should probably record your history of epilepsy. Some insurance companies weigh the frequency and severity of seizures when deciding to accept applicants who have epilepsy. Also, if you haven’t had an attack in a while, that could make it easier, too. Also, if your seizures are controlled, that could make insurance easier to obtain and less expensive. If you are looking for a personal policy, you should talk with local health insurance agents. MostChoice.com is a good place to start. There’s not cost or obligation to buy insurance. You just fill out a short form, review online quotes from local health plans, and state-licensed agents should contact you within 48 hours. Tell them about your situation, and let them do the legwork. If you like what one of them comes back with, then buy the policy. If you’re not happy with what an agent is offering, then move on.

Hope this helps,
