how can you tell if a cut is infected or is to deep?

Question:
iam a cutter iam in the process of getting help i have a couple of cuts that are very deep and i think one of them is infected. if there is anyone out here that knows, i could use some help. or if there are any other cutters out there i am also looking for a support group.

Answers:
You will know if you have an infection if the area around the cut is red, inflamed or warm to the touch. If the wound is oozing yellow or green exudate, you have an infection. If you have an elevated temperature, you have an infection. You do not need all of these symptoms to be present to have an infection. Any one of them could be the "start" of an infection.

Too deep would be if the area is gaping open (at all). If it is gaping, it may not heal at all, could become terribly infected quickly, or you might have a horriffic scar. You need stitches. You say you are in the process of getting help, I hope you are talking about psychological help. If you are already asking for info on "infection & how deep is too deep", you probably already know that you need medical attention. Please seek help right away. Don't wait on this! I care.

Infection starts with reddening around the edges and then pus and swelling develop. Please get help hon, there are treatment programs especially for that and medication and counseling. Good Luck!!
if it is real red and it has a discharge and if you can see bone that's a good clue that it is infected and deep
feel free to e-mail me if you want to talk i used to cut but havent done so for about 2 years. x
If you are worried about any cuts, see a doctor. You can even go to a clinic or an ER and do it anonymously - but better to be safe than sorry.
