Signs of depression?

Question:
I've been sketchy if I'm depressed or not...... I really don't know.... I've read other posts and most symptoms apply to me... but I can't really believe I'm depressed. I'm happy sometimes. Then other times I'm not......

-I've been eating like crazy lately and I can't really control my hunger.... and it's at random times. I had to eat at 12am the other day or else I felt like I'd faint.... I've been wondering what's triggering this.
-I've been sleeping a lot.... more than usual...
-I don't really want to go anywhere. I'd rather stay in my room alone...
-I'm constantly sad/crying & lack hope.. (there's a lot going on in my life right now)

If I am depressed, where do I go to treat it? I'm 14...... so I don't know if the treatment changes for adults and teens. Help is appreciated. =)

Welcome to the teenage years!! You are changing, and there is this wonderful part of life called hormones. YOU are fine, and the only thing wrong is the chemicals in your brain are telling you otherwise. You are just finding it difficult to adjust to the newness of these changes, in my opinion. For some reason however, I feel there is something you're not saying in your post. Something else bothering you? My advice would be talk to someone that you know you can trust: God, however you believe, a pharmacist, a doctor, a parent. Medications are available to help get you out of the "funk" and get you back into everyday life in a positive way. Help is only a prayer away, God loves you. It is God who should decide whether you live or die, and if you live in God's will, and accept HIS GIFT, then you will have everlasting life!

come here and let me give you a hug...I have the same problem except I am one year older than you

the only way to treat it is to help yourself and talk to someone you can relate to

sont be afraid to talk because if you dont, then you are just hiding your problems away

i did the same thing, i talked to someone, then I feel much better

good luck to you
Seek out a good counselor, and talk it over. For me, I found that I was comparing myself to other people, and thinking I was worse than them. Or, I compared myself to some silly "ideal" person I "should be", but could never be. Get back to reality, and know that all people face similar problems and shortcomings. That helped me, anyway.
There are many signs to depression even some that may not be affecting you. The need for food could be your not getting enough nutrition in your diet so you make up for it in calories at random times during the day. Sleeping alot could suggest that you are tired and depleated of energy. Of course, not wanting to do anything could mean that you feel alone and just want someone you can trust but you dont lash out to them at the right time. Independance is also a phase that teenagers go thru. Crying a lot, as you said, there are problems could be that. But if you feel that depressed or thing that is depression, you should go see a doctor because depression can cause disorders. Good luck - stay happy
you could talk with your guidance counselor at school, or what about your parents, if not then maybe your doctor, or your local health department may have a program
What I would do, since you are 14 is talk to your parents, or a counselor at school maybe. Explain to them how you are feeling and why you are feeling this way. That's the best thing to do at this moment because you are a kid, your parents would want to know what is going on with you and i think that if you are really scared and don't understand what is going on you should try to get an adult (someone who might understand and help you through this) to help you.
Good luck and Much Smiles
you may be able to get over it by speaking to a therapist but sometimes if it is really bad and interferes with life you may need medication. talking to your family doctor can help and he/she will decide if medication is a good choice of treatment for you.
I've been battling depression since I was like 13 and yes, those sound alot like the symptoms I had. There are millions of people out there that battle depression every day so you are not alone. And depression is like that..sometimes you feel fine but then other times you just feel like everything in your life is going wrong and you're constantly crying and feeling down. I would recommend seeing a doctor. You might have a chemical imbalance that could be causing this or like you said, you have alot going on and the doctor might be able to prescribe something to take the edge off and help you feel a little better about yourself and life in general. I hope my advice helps, and remember, you're not alone. Good luck!
For one, I don't think that the feeling of faintness has anything to do with depression.

What you are experiencing COULD be depression, but you should go to the doctor to eliminate the possibility of hypothyroidism (which causes symptoms similar to depression), and hypoglaucemia (which could be causing the faintness from hunger.

Once those have been ruled out, though, it will probably come down to depression and/or anxiety, both of which are easily treated with medication.

Exercising will help you until you can get to the doctor. It boost serotonin levels (the chemical in your brain that makes you feel good) up to 200% with a good thirty minute work out. Eat better, and drink plenty of water. Get plenty of rest, but do not let yourself sleep more than eight hours a night. Do not take naps in the afternoon, and do not eat unless you are really hungry.

Doctor. Do it. You'll feel better if you do.
well the same kind of thing happened to me and i always took it as that i was depressed. turns out i was right.

they give these kind survey things about different symptoms and you check them and they decide if you should be treated for it or just its something that goes away with time.
with me it was mostly a thyroid issue that triggered my depression. sometimes it could that if you could just figure out if its something with your hormones the symptoms might go away. the medicine they put you on like...prozac or zoloft take a while to take effect and usually you end up feeling worse for about 3 months prior to its effects actually helping.

the eating and sleeping and crying are all just things that could be a temporary thing but if you are really worried about it i would suggest that you go to your doctor and take a few depression scans and then decide whether or not you want to be medicated for it.

another factor might be your age. many times your age has a lot to do with what kind of changes your body might go through physically...mentally or emotionally.
If you looked them up and most of them apply to you why dont you find a doctor or get yourself checked up? If you don't want to ask your parents ask an adult you trust like one of your teachers or school counselor on how you can get help. Take that first step....ask.

First of all you are not alone in this journey called life. I am sorry you're having a tough time right now.
Depression is a serious thing to deal with. If you have concerns you need to speak with a medical physician and more importantly your parents.
When speaking to your Dr he/she will give you a test/evaluation to determine the level of your depression. If warranted they will put you on medication or in some cases place you under evaluation.
Good luck and I hope this has helped.
God Bless.
I think you are depressed. You should talk to your parents and have them help you get help, like seeing a counselor so you can work through your issues. If you feel uncomfortable talking to your parents, you can talk to another relative, a school counselor, or an older friend.
Treatment is different for everybody, not just between teenagers and adults. A psychiatrist will be able to tell what type of treatment is best for you.
Good luck!
