are things like ocd/anxiety/depression linked?

Question:

Answers:
Absolutely! Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, anxiety, depression and other mood disorders are all caused by a chemical imbalance due to too many, too few or improper transportation of neurotransmitters in your brain. (Norepinephrine & Serotonin are the major neurotransmitters that you hear about, but there are others as well)

Antidepressants such as Prozac, Paxil, Cymbalta, Zoloft and Lexapro work on increasing production of these neurotransmitters and/or increasing the re-uptake (I won't get into the neurology of how they work... let's just say that they get the neurotransmitters to where they are supposed to be which in turn, balances the chemicals in your brain... therefore "balancing" your chemical imbalance). Often, these antidepressants are used to treat mood disorders and anxiety as well as OCD.

I personally suffer from depression and have always thought that perhaps I have a touch of OCD. I was never diagnosed, but something was never quite right-- sometimes I couldn't sleep because I was preoccupied with the house catching on fire or I my bedroom being too messy. I put things in order based on color or number. I couldn't get out of bed unless my clock was on an even number. Anyway, when I started taking prozac, those symptoms went away as well.

Could be. My daughter had ODD and anxiety linked together and by resolving the ODD, the anxiety cleared up.
Quite often they are. Talk to a doctor if you are have problems with any of these. There is help, you don't have to feel that way.
They usually are, yes. I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, and was directly related to my depression. Anxiety can cause depression, and vice versa.
OCD is anxiety based. When you have that much anxiety you are more apt to be depressed. Most anti-depressants will help with one but not both, but there are a couple of meds that help with both. Zoloft is one. good Luck!
I think so......I am not a doctor, but I feel that I have slight OCD with silly things (cleanliness or vocabulary) I never told a doctor because it doesn't really effect my daily life to the point I would need to. I have a clean home and I am an excellent speller, so-what if occasionally my friends make fun of me!
I also take prescriptions for anxiety though.
It depends on your situation, but yes they very much can be linked to eachother. See, I was a major depressive and while I was dealing with that, i noticed that I started to get panic attacks, so here i was with depression and anxiety. Now as far as OCD, it can be linked to depression, depending on the stage of depression. Someone can deal with major depression with slight bi-polar. When your bi-polar you can have manic times and during those times you can experience OCD. During my manic times i cleaned, but I would clean my floors over and over again because they weren't clean enough for me...i would become obsessed about it. Hopefully this helps you out a little, but there are plenty of medications that can help. Zoloft can help with depression and anxiety. Xanax can help with panic attacks, and getting some bi-polar medication could..."could" help with the OCD.
Absolutely. I have a panic disorder, and suffered from depression because of it. You can also see a link in terms of the chemical/hormonal reactions going on in the brain, because many antidepressants can also be used to treat anxiety.
