How many have conquered depression without meds?

Question:
I tried at least 7 different meds and all they did was make me feel dull. Then I tried a comprehensive congitive therapy program and it made all the difference.

Answers:
Cognitive therapy is what helped me, also. I've taken two different kinds of antidepressants (Celexa and Effexor XR), and although they helped lift my mood, they still didn't treat the root cause of my symptoms, which was my negative thoughts. I began using the cognitive therapy methods described in the book "Feeling Good" by Dr. David Burns, and I was able to put my negative thoughts in a more realistic light and eventually cure myself of clinical depression altogether.

its all within urself.. at times i have been thru severe depression but managed to come out well.. its all ur attitudes, beliefs and way of life that can bring a change.. go be happy!

I have dysthmia, (double depression) and will be on meds for life, I have not conquered them and probably never will. I have stopped the meds at times, but my depression comes right back with in a day or two, so for me, it will most likely be meds for life. I am happy however for you that you were able to find something that works. Congrats and I hope it last for life. Medicines made me feel WAY worse than off and so did the individual therapy in many ways. I bought three rabbits and I've been the happiest person alive ever since!

I be with friends and family. Read, listen to music and think positive. Have fun, drink a lil, watch comedy stuff listen to comedy central =- It worx wonders.

I got fed up with meds making me feel like a walking zombie.so i flushed them..now im a 31yr old mom and believe me every day is a challenge.all i have to do is look at my little girl and now i have my reason to keep at it..oh i have borderline personality disorder and PTS syndrome..1 day at a time.and keep looking at my little girl.she makes all the struggle worthwhile.

I have. Its no big deal. I have battled with depression nearly all my life. I have taken all kinds of medications that either turn me into a complete insomniac or otherwise make me bounce off the walls. The best thing to do is indulge in an interest or look at something beautiful like a nice calm ocean and stare at it for ages or smell something soft and natural like patchouli and jasmine..I know it may sound cheesy but hey! It worked for me! Best of luck

I have been on a few. They made feel like I was crazy. I went to the doctor claiming lack of energy. I didn't want to do anything. The doctor said after a few months of this medication I will begin doing things but after a few months the meds made me feel comfortable without stress about doing nothing. my bills were backing up and it didn't bother me a bit. family members said I was not normal anymore so I stopped taking the meds. now I take vitamins. that helps a whole lot more. its helps more when I am off the junk food for a few days

i know many people who have.
it is all in the mind basically.

DEPRESSION IS MAINLY DIVIDED INTO 2 CATAGORIS. SITUATIONAL AND CHEMICAL. THOSE WHO SUFFER FROM SITUATIONAL DEPRESSION HAVE A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF GETTING WELL AND STAYING THAT WAY WITHOUT MEDICATION, THOSE WHO SUFFER FROM CHEMICAL IMBALANCE DEPRESSION WILL NEED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH MEDS, AND OUT OF THOSE A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF THEM WILL NEED TO STAY ON MEDS IN ORDER TO REMAIN STABLE. PLEASE NOTE NO MATTER WHICH FORM OF DEPRESSION ONE SUFFERS FROM, FOR THE BEST RECOVERY POSSIBLE, THERAPY SHOULD ALWAYS BE THE PRIMARY COURSE OF TREATMENT !
