I try to think "It could be worse". Look around at what you have and think about the people who've made an impact on your life so far. Don't dwell on the bad things, and lastly always hope.

I believe in the law of attraction. I remind myself that what I focus on is what I get. I try to focus on something I want and feel how glad I'm going to feel when I get it. Everybody feels down sometimes but reminding myself that I manifest the things I invest emotion in prevents me from engaging in unnecessary self pity or wallowing. I've been amazed at how often I get what I want when I focus on it make the effort to pour some positive energy into. And BTW it is an effort and it takes practice.
For me when I get down I just remember-and this too shall pass.
