Am I Lazy or Still dealing with Anxiety?
Question:
When I am hired, I go and then feel trapped in the place for eight hours and then excuses fill my head. I do want to work, don't get me wrong. I just feel so helpless and lost when I am at work. I am really close to giving up on myself...Can anyone give some real advice on what to do? Perhaps someone has been here before?

Don't get hired somewhere for full time shifts right away. If you can't spend that much time outside then maybe choose something small at first? Get used to being outdoors with volunteering somewhere. Or maybe be somewhere where you don't have to deal with people. Or is it just the thought of not being able to do what you want? If you helped at an animal shelter or something you could do some self theraphy from the help you're providing while also helping out animals that need love and time with new people! Its hard sometimes to function as everyone else needs, just take it at a slow pace.

I know what you're going through. You could do research to try to start on your own business. But maybe you should start taking your medication. I'm on Prozac and I haven't taken it in a while and it's really affecting my behavior.
I know it's easy for people to say to take your meds, but I know what it's like not to function like "normal" people... I also see a counselor/psychiatrist so maybe you can try that too.

I have a more mild version of that, actually. The best thing to do, is realize the following:
Who says what you WANT to do? It's a feeling inside, right? Well who put that feeling there? Do you say, at the beginning of your life what you will and won't like? Who's really in charge here? It's not your conscious mind. Think about how you're really a slave to wants, needs, and dislikes. Know what you think is good, and do it.
ONe of the questions is ~ what do you want to do? Is there something about yourself that you are not expressing? Your anxiety and depression are definitely at play with you right now. I suggest not only speaking with your doc, but also an acupuncturist. chinese medicine works well for anxiety and depression and works alongside western medicine quite well. the combo can help immensely and may also help with potential side effects from meds. Im no shrink, but perhaps approaching life with renewed curiosity and being truthful to yourself about what you want to do with your life will help you. Please dont drop meds without your docs advice and assistance. good luck to you.
Zoloft isn't used to treat Anxiety. It is used for Depression!
Go back on it. OR go back to your Psychiatrist for something new/different.
Sometimes when you have a mental illness it's hard to tell what part of your problem is related to your illness and you might start to think you're just a bad person, so I understand. I had that same problem with work when my depression and anxiety was severe, and it started to let up when my depression and anxiety lessened. So I'd say it's probably related to your mental illness, not just a character flaw. By the way, did your doctor advise you to stop taking the Zoloft, or did you just decide on your own? Sometimes you can have bad side effects if you just stop taking medication suddenly.
IT IS VERY COMMON FOR PEOPLE WHO TAKE MEDICATION FOR MENTAL DISORDERS LIKE ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION ECT TO STOP TAKING THEIR MEDS ONCE THEY START DOING BETTER BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY ARE CURED..IN REALITY YOU NEED TO REMEMBER YOU DOING BETTER BECAUSE OF THE MEDS. MOST OF US WITH THESE DISORDER WILL HAVE TO STAY ON THESE MEDS INDEFINITELY AS THESE CONDITIONS ARE NOT CURED JUST STABILIZED. YOU COULD PROBABLY BENEFIT FROM JOINING A SUPPORT GROUP FOR PEOPLE SUFFERING SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER AND/OR GENERAL ANXIETY DISORDER. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU.
