what is clonazepam 0.5mg used for?

Question:
i am very depressed and the doc. put me on this

Answers:
Clonazepam generic for Klonopin is what I take for panic disorder/panic attacks. I take one 0.5 mg once a day, It is a controlled drug specifically for panic attacks or seizures, at least this is my understanding. I don't know why your Doc prescribed this drug to you for depression, unless he believes you have anxiety that could possibly bring on a panic attack. If I were you, I would talk with my Doc and ask him/her how this drug will help with depression. Have the Doc explain to you what it is specifically used for. God Bless!!

Other Answers:
It's like Valium.
for sedation to help you sleep

it is not an anti-depressant
anxiety / possibly bi-polar
Used as an anticonvulsant; anxiolytic for panic disorder; investigational drug for hyperexplexia (startle disease).
boredom.
its a sedative, to help you relax and keep anxiety at bay. its habit forming if not taken correctly.
It is used to treat these:
Anxiety disorder. Due to the chronic nature of anxiety, long-term low-dose benzodiazepine treatment may be necessary for some patients; this continuation of treatment should not be considered abuse or addiction.
Panic attacks
Restless leg syndrome (RLS)
Inital treatment of mania, together with firstline-drugs such as lithium, haloperidol or risperidone
Hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (off-label use)
Chronic fatigue syndrome
Night terrors
Tourette Syndrome - Clonazepam has shown to be helpful in reducing and dealing with the physical motor tics associated with TS, though is still considered an off-label usage by many.
I'm on that one too...and I am also being treated for depression. But I am using that with another anit depressant. I'm using it for anxity, as I was having panic attacks along with the depression. Ask your doctor why he/she feels its best for you.
It is prescribed for petit mal and other seizures; also for panic attacks, periodic leg movements during sleep, speaking difficulty associated with Parkinson's disease, acute manic episodes, nerve pain, and schizophrenia.

It's not a sedative or hypnotic and is typically used for those who don't respond to other drug treatments.

Tolerance deveolps within three months of use and your doctor may increase the dosage to maintain the drug's effect.

When stopping treatment, the drug MUST be discontinued gradually. Abrupt discontinuance can lead to seizures, tremors, abdominal or muscle cramps, vomiting, and increased sweating.

Smoking will reduce the drug's effectiveness and, if you use antacids, separate the times you take them by at least one hour, as the antacid can affct how the Clonazepam is absorbed into you bloodstream.

Listen to your doctor and good luck!
it is klonopin which is an anti anxiety medication..in the same family as ativan..or lorazapam.
Clonazepam is generic for Klonopin...0.5mg is the lowest dosage...this is not used to treat depression but anxiety, panic disorders, etc...it is habit forming as it is a controlled substance...the best way i have found of describing it is it's basically the grandfather of xanax...it's typically only used short term...if your doc has you on it for longer than a couple of months, you might want to talk to him/her about it or seek another doctor...too many doctors out there are ready and all too willing to just prescribe stuff for a quick fix instead of dealing with the actual issues...i've been on all kinds of meds for my depression and eating disorders including klonopin a few different times in my life for panic attacks and anxiety which are also symptoms of depression...hope this helps~
