How to change really negative thinking to positive?

Question:
How to change negative thinking to positive. I find my self thinking about doing something or going some where and always make up really bad reasons why I shouldn't. I look at everything and always look for something bad to happen. Its seems like its automatic how can I change this, really need some info. And when I am meeting new people I always think that they are judging me for some reason and dont think that I worth that much. I try to put them down in some way just to make my self look better, I know its just my low self esteem. I started having panic attacks because of this. I am 20 year old guy and Ive been told by lots of people that I am good looking. I look at all people around me and I think everybody is better than me. When somebody says something even jokingly about me in bad way, I get so pissed off and dwell on it for days. How can I get out of this and change the way I think and perceive things?I am just so sick of feeling this way.

Answers:
Try to find the source of your low self-esteem, such as how you were treated as a child. Once you can understand the reason for your insecurity, you will realize that the problem is not yours and you can begin to heal.

There's a book out there called 'The Four Agreements' by don Miguel Ruiz. Read it Read it Read it. It's only $13 at a bookstore, and trust me you'll want to make notes in the margins as you go. It's all about realizing that noone but you can make yourself happy, and that what others think really doesn't change your value as a person. Read it slowly, and you'll probably want to read it more than once, as it changes meaning depending upon where you are in your journey.

Seriously, I was you. It's just a book with great ideas in it. No brainwashing, no cult, no crazy spirituality stuff in it. It just makes you change your though processes.
Forgive others and forgive yourself for past wrongs. Have a code of ethics/conduct for yourself and respect yourself. Be honest with others and yourself. Try to be aware of people's needs and concerns but don't live for the status quo. Have high ideals and goals and stick to them. Go to church and keep the faith. Decide not to dwell on the past but go forward.
