How can i know what it is that is making me binge so that i can fix it?

I'm a binge eater, I have a doctor. He has tried to put me on topamax which is supposed to supress my eating, but it hasn't. Which means I'm back to the old fashion way of things, working out and just fighting myself.
The things I do to keep from it. I guess some things to keep in mind are that I have have been fighting this for over 10 years and I have lost over 50 lbs, but I have recently gained back 30 lbs, but now once again I'm losing it again.
Everytime I eat I think about why I'm eating. Think about what you're void you are trying to fill and is missing. Then don't think of eating as a bad thing. The last thing you want to do is treat yourself as the enemy with a problem. That just get's you more depressed and more stressed out.
Every once and a while treat yourself. Don't do it so infrequently thought that you start thinking of it as treats then it just becomes another mind game.
Also, another big and great idea that worked wonders was always have some sweets or fatty food on you and have a little bit during the day and slowly take it out of your diet, but do it on your own time. You set the guidelines because you know yourself better than anyone else.
Other big basics are just get out. Busy yourself around home or work. The more active you are the less likely you are to binge. Don't have things are the house that you like to snack on around the house all the time. If you do have them in small amounts so you can't over eat. And lastly, don't be affraid to ask for help, you're friends and family or doctors are always there for you they want to help or just listen. Everyone has some kind of problem even with food. It's not that uncommon and it can be stopped with just a little work.

It's as difficult as quiting smoking. Self control is the only real solution.
Try to realize the difference between your body being hungry, and the incredible desire to taste food. You have convinced yourself that wanting to taste something must mean you're hungry. It also helps to NOT stock bad foods.
When you want to binge think about what is making you want to binge. How do you feel, what just happened and then think about your response. Then walk away from the food and do something else and this will develop a routine away from binging. Good luck and be good to yourself.
Honey, it's great that you want help but you won't be able to get the help you need here. Please check into counseling. If you can't afford one, ask about a free or sliding scale clinic. Overeaters anonymous may also be able to give you some direction.
It could be a food addiction, or it could be that there are issues in your life you don't want to deal with and so you shove them down by shoving down the food. Both are fairly common but hard to handle alone. A good counselor can help you sort this out and get past the guilt and other feelings you are having a hard time with.
