Does anyone know of any solutions for memory side effects of Topamax?

Question:
I have been taking Topamax for a year now for Bipolar and have had memory problems such as not being able to remember dates and information that others tell me, along with not being able to recall the right words when I am talking with others. I have been able to cope by writing everything down but now my dose has been increased making the symptoms worse and I am wondering if there are any other possible solutions out there. And no changing medications is not an options at this point.

Answers:
i have not experienced any side efects from topamax and have used it for 3 years i am comfortable with it an would not change it either.
by the way have you noticed you have fewer migrains seince being on topamax (its one of the uses for topamax)

Other Answers:
talk to the prescribing doctor. The problem might be something besides the Topamax. I have those same memory problems and I have chronic fatigue syndrome.
A pharmacist can be very helpful with this also.
There has recently been news that working crossword puzzles, reading, and other things to challenge the brain help memory.
same thing happened to me, only my speech was affected as well. i once lost my car/house keys, had to cxall a locksmith, cost me over $200.00 for new keys on a holiday, my keys were hanging by the door where they always were, just couldnt remember where i kept them. i lost my job because i was late for work, lost track of how many times late in as many days, reason...i forgot how to start my car.
i talked with my neurologist at the time and we decided that topamax was not the med for me, i was suffering from migraines at the time and it was used for "experimental" treatment.
uhm...why are they giving you topamax for bi-polar? it is an "anti-convulsive" for epileptics.
I agree with splinter....
My husband currently takes Topamax for headaches related to Normal Pressure Hydrocephlus...I have noticed he can't remember things that I am sure we discussed several times. He forgets to bring things home from work, appts, conversations. etc. I thank you for the insight... never thought it could be the meds. I chalked it up as stress.
