Why can't I sleep anymore?!?

Question:
What is with me?! I am 15 and am finding it seriously hard to sleep. It is effecting my schooling because I can't be bothered to get up in the morning and go to school, even if I do go to school I am too exhausted to do anything. I have tried working out what it could be down to;
--> I don't have that much caffeine
--> I'm not trying to sleep really early
--> I don't sleep during the day
--> It's not because of the heat because my room is cool
--> I have tried with the light off and on
--> It's not due to sound
--> I have tried reading previous/ listening to relaxing music/ boring myself to sleep but it doesn't generally work
--> I have a fairly good diet, so that wouldn't be it
--> I don't do much exercise but have done more to try and wear myself out

I can't think of anything else right now. But please any other suggestions of why I can't sleep and maybe ways to overcome it?

Answers:
I stopped sleeping when I became depressed. My mind would
race & I would sit awake & think all night. Tossing & turning.
Are you depressed? May I ask - are you overweight?
I'm asking because I am and I was just diagnosed with Sleep
Apnea - I fall asleep in church & other places without trying and
I wake up dead tired.

If you are depressed you won't sleep. I would suggest seeing
your doctor and being put on short term sleeping meds. If you
are depressed I would recommend counseling to see why you
can't sleep & get a Psychiatrist to help with the meds.

Other Answers:
Well, normal teens don't get tired until 11:00 pm ish. They don't want to wake up until 11:00 am ish. That's just the way your body works. Get pleanty of sunlight during the day. I know, sounds weird, but it worked for me and my sister. That's all I know to tell you. Stay away from the sleeping pills.

Insomnia can be a sign of some serious medical conditions. It could also be depression - that can cause some other symptoms as well - Go to a doctor, see what they can do as far as ruling out some serious problems and prescribing you something to get back in the habit of sleeping. Could be a phase you're going through. Could it be stress from relationships or school?

I used to have issues with sleeping, started listening to talk radio and that helped get me to sleep.

Ok, know this in 24hrs period if u sleep 8 hrs at any given time u will be up for next 16hrs. maybe you have something on your mind and you dont know what it is maybe if you think about it you might find the answer to your problem good luck

you will have to start with absolutely zero caffeine and work from there. You can sleep with caffeine but it is not the same.

You need to see a doctor. I've had the same problems all my life and it eventually effected my mind. You're so young! Have a doctor check you for medical problems. And if he wants to prescribe sleeping pills of any kind tell him you'd like to try a natural approach and get homeopathic medication from a nutrition store. Prescription sleeping pills are addictive and stop working after awhile- I've learned the hard way! There was a time when nothing put me to sleep- and I mean nothing- and I took all kinds of prescriptions. Homeopathic medications for insomnia- if, and only if, your doctor doesn't find a medical cause.

What's good about homeopathic medication is that it cures, and doesn't just cover up symptoms. B&T Naturals for insomnia is the best- take them as directed for a few days and they should get you back to sleeping on your own the way you should. and if you can't find B&T, get Hyland's insomnia or Hyland's calms. They won't interact with other prescriptions, become addictive or stop working like prescription sleeping pills.

I also use oxygen for sleep apnea. It's quite common, and apparantly it had been a problem for years- I couldn't stay asleep long enough to get into REM sleep- that's the stage of sleep that is necessary- you have to sleep at least 1 1/2 hours at a time to get a full sleep cycle and into REM sleep. Now I can.

Sleep apnea is when you stop breathing during the night. It can be deadly, but for most of us, it just causes us to wake up when we stop breathing. We start again, but then you have to try and get to sleep again- and you wake again when you stop breathing and so on until you just can't take it anymore. I have all the symptoms of decades of sleep deprivation and believe me it's not good.
