Laughter works, too: it can release tension caused by fear and anger. Releasing anger through a tantrum — either alone or with a friend or counselor — can also help. Whatever you’re feeling, express it. Don’t hold it in.
Because crying is how some people best express their inner feelings when they are having sorrow. it is a relief in the same sense that if you have ever had a blood blister or even a boil, and when it is popped and all of the stuff finally runs out of it, you feel relief from the pressure the stuff inside was causing, yes? So if you can identify the crying as being like the stuff that needed to come out of the blister, or in this case sorrow would be the blister, you can see one way that it gives relief. i.e. crying came out of the sorrow and so sorrow was relieved. ventilation to relieve sorrow!

therapeutic release of emotions
Emotional crying relives stress caused by sorrow by releasing neuro transmitters like serotonin and endorphins that make a person physically feel better thus alleviating the sorrow. Hope you are feeling better.
They've tested the chemical make-up of tears. Tears shed in sorrow are different chemically than tears shed in anger, fear, or allergies. So the thoguth is that they actually help carry out bad chemicals thru the tears. The brain releases neurotransmitters during crying that calm the system. They actually feel good to the brain, unless you're a man who's been psychologically conditioned that crying means you are weak - then it only makes it worse. The crying stops and the sorrow gets pushed down deeper and deeper and who knows what it does all packed down there.
I have so many uncried tears that I can only relieve if I go the gym and lift weights. That's how we deal in guyworld.
