what is the first aid for panic attack disorder?

Question:

Answers:
you can do the drug thing....like I do when I am alone, or when my husband is home, he pulls me into a rocking chair and holds me tight while he rocks me and speaks softly and assuring to me. Sounds like a bunch of crap I know, but it really works for me!

Other Answers:
Having a panic attack is not life-threatening; although to the person experiencing one, it may feel like one. Therefore, first aid is not necesary in this situation. Deep breaths are the best treatment when these occur.
Paper bag and just trying to breathe and relax. Sometimes it helps if you hold something.
As a home remedy people generally used to breathe into a paper sack to overcome a panic attack - there are over-the-counter herbal remedies; valerian, kava kava, passionfruit, ginger teas.....and herbal formulas; Happy Camper, Ex-stress, and others....
thanks & Good luck !

if you like to sing, sing a song you like . . .
pray to God that loves you . . .
The breathing in the sack is an old trick. The more up to date beside the benzodiazapin medicine is telling yourself during an attack that you are in control. Deep breaths into your stomach through the mouth and out through the nose helps also.
Also take 30 mins. to an hour a day meditating and affirmation , writing in your journal etc.... takes a long term effect.
Breathing is always good, and knowing that you are in control helps, it all sounds so simple, but when you're actually having the attack it's hard to keep all that in mind. I have them almost everyday, and I'm on a few meds that have decreased the severity of them, but haven't taken them away. Lately, I have been laying on the floor with my feet up to my knees on the couch, or in bed with a couple pillows under my feet and knees. It helps to put my hands under my butt, sounds weird, but for me it really helps because I have a problem with just laying still, and just lay there and breathe. I try to do it with complete silence, if possible. It also helps to focus on something...I usually think about what I have planned the next day, what should I make for dinner, etc. Within 5-10 minutes it slowly starts to fade away. Hopefully this will help you!
To fight an upcoming panic attack, get really po'ed. Think of something that makes you mad as h*ll and work up your anger fast. It's impossible to be be in *fight* and *flight/fright* mode at the same time, so the anger will block out the panic. I'm assuming you're not a violent person. If you are, forget this.

There are other very effective, similar methods, but you have to practise them for quite a while, so they don't qualify as *first aid*.
