why this question has come under 'mental health'?
In my opinion, self confidence can be one of the most difficult problems to overcome in this life. Perhaps this has to do with the notion that self confidence has everything to do with self trust.
In a classic sense, ...in my opinion, self confidence as a core issue within the individual is determined very early in life. .... As a result, it can be very difficult to resolve. ..... There is nothing particularly unique about this but I do see the lack of self confidence as being rooted in the lack of self love. They are almost one and the same thing, yet this is not neccessarily very apparent at first.
.... As far as gaining self confidence is concerned,.. I do see this as something that comes from challenging one-self in a healthy way. The individual needs to push themselves to take on challenges that they may fear they are not capable of achieving,.. yet ideally this would be in an arena that is at least somewhat supportive of that individuals process. I also think that it is probably most ideal if that arena is a "non-competitive" one. .. I do not think it helps the individual who is needing to develop self confidence to be engaged in a situation where others are seeking to "one up" them or be better than they are, so to speak.
An example of such a positive self confidence building experience might be the likes of something like an 'Outward Bound' type of wilderness experience where the individual is part of a small team of peope who are working together towards a common goal for the benefit of the whole group. ... The experience is challenging and confidence building, and yet not competitive.
So too, with such a wilderness experience, the natural environment itself provides an arena that allows the individual to confront themselves, rather than society and it's very competitive and high pressure atmosphere which tends to work against resolving self confidence issues within the individual.
