Why do ppl tend to generalize?
Question:
Answers:
I believe that this problem arises out of ignorance and misunderstanding. Here in America, and perhaps around the world, the groups of people that get the most attention are those that spread hate and perpetuate terroristic acts against others. It is this way for all things not just matters of religion. By seeing only those extremists on television and in news broadcasts, news papers and the like, it is easy to see why one might think all people of one religion are the same. This can't be true. Here in the United States we have our good and our bad as is the case in all peoples world wide. It is a shame that people are grouped into small categories, but that is just the way it is. It will remain so as long as people choose to remain narrow minded and refuse to enlighten themselves through education, understanding and reaching out a hand to those that are of different faiths.
Sincerely,
Terry

to answer your question outright, i will simply say "it is easier to lump people together for the purposes of simplifying a complex problem"
to go a little further, im an american christian and I understand and feel for hezebollah
the palestinians justifyiably and understandibly want the land that was taken from them after the second world war, they were never conquered by the people who now reside on what was their land
the only reason israel exist today is because of western powers that want it that way
terrorism is a military tactic employed by small weaker fighting forces against larger more sophisticated forces
terrorism is ultimately a check on how much power the world's super powers have Please understand that people here are to caught up in their self-rightousness to understand the complexities of other parts of the world. And for those few us us that do know the differance are treated as ******.
If its true that ignorance is bliss, then its running wild and out of control. I support no religion but know the creator well and believe, just as he asked of me.
I see it as well. I am Jewish and have been to and lived in Israel. I have seen, met and spoken to may Israeli Arabs who just want peace in the region. They told me that there would be better living conditions for everyone if they all (Jews, Arabs, Christians) worked together and lived in Peace.
I extremism in any shape or form is bad.
Oh and a Message for William L. Hezbollah and other fundamental groups would give no second thought to killing Christians.
Jews and Arabs have been living in Israel and that whole region Jordan, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Ethiopia etc. for thousands of years.
The fighting taking place is not new and has been on going for thousands of years. We really know very very little about other cultures, and when the extremists talk, they get lots of publicity. l think you hear the ignorant people most often, no matter what their beliefs. I respect other people's religious beliefs. Like you, I don't believe that extremists are in the least bit helpful, and wonder why we get them in every religion.
I wonder if there is a way to use the Web to familiarise people with other cultures, in such a way that it would be an interesting thing to do - like these answers. It is difficult to get angry with a whole race if you have even one friend of that race. My Sri Lankan friend has a best friend who is a Tamil Tiger. Its not impossible.
Maybe you will get some more ideas from other answers. I hope so.
