Rude Awakening?

Question:
Are there ever times when you're lying in bed...either just about asleep or barely asleep...and it feels like something explodes inside your head? Or maybe like you're falling? And you shoot up out of bed and are instantly awake? I do that a lot, and I'm not sure what it is. Any help?

Answers:
I get that sometimes. It's usually when I'm really tired and I've stayed awake much longer than I should. I think it's my synapses saying, "It is really, really time for you to shut down."
A) Don't keep yourself awake when you're really tired.
B) Learn some relaxation techniques.
C) Be able to relax when it's time to relax. There's only so much you can do in one day.
Sometimes when I'm falling asleep or I just fell asleep, I'll suddenly feel like I tripped over a big tree trunk or something and wake up suddenly. I think it's a pretty common thing that a lot of people experience.
