Does mediaction for Bi-polar affect your basic personality?
Question:
Answers:
Medication does not change your base personality - only to balance out the extreme highs and lows. Some medications operate differently on some people - so keep track of your moods and inform your psychiatrist if anything remains out of whack. Also remember that medications need weeks or even months for their effect to be known. Be patient, stay the course and you may be surprised. Stay away from drugs, alcohol, caffeine and sugar in the meantime.
Depends on your body.. medication affects different people in different ways.. make sure you check out the possible side effects of the drug and keep an eye on the symptoms you have.
when i started my meds i got hyper and then i would be tired...
but when the meds get into your system about 2 weeks you should level out
well since your bi-polar personality is who you are anything you take to change bi-polar personality will change who you are. it is inevitable.
you will not be the same but probably you will like the new you.
who can tell what real you is like anyway? people change over time. so 10 years from now your personality changes based on life experiences and suddenly you are not yourself?
dont worry
be happy
It depends on the person. One of my friends was taking Wellbutrin and thought it made it so she was numb to her feelings.
I take Zoloft for depression. For me it just makes me feel like me (on the happy side of my moods) all the time. I was having trouble with sleeping, irratability, feeling isolated, etc before I started taking it. I don't think my personality has been changed at all. The one side effect I have noticed is that I see "illusions" occasionally (like there is something out of the corner of your eye, but when you look there is nothing there). Not scary or anything, and not a big deal.
I would say try the meds. hopefully they won't change your personality, but if you have side effects there are lots of meds, get your Dr to give you something else. Here is a link to info on most meds available for manic depression
