Does going into therapy really work?
Question:
Answers:
Yes it really does work. Depression is one of the few things they can "cure." And they can do this without drugs although they might put you on an antidepressant in the beginning.
The reason you think it wouldn't work is your pre-conceived notion of how it works. It doesn't at all work like what you see on TV. In fact with a few visits you will be asking yourself why am I wasting my money. A few more and you will realize it is money well spent.
Basically they ask you a lot of questons, don't put you on the spot and they don't make judgements.
Be sure and get one that you would want. If someone suggest a man that did them wonders, don't use him if you "think" you wouldn't like talking to a man. Ditto the reverse.
It's probably better to "get in" instead of wasting a lot of time trying to find the right person (if you are one to waste a lot of time doing such things).
Don't expect on your first visit much is going to change. this is really an introduction visit so he/she will get to know you and you know them.
It isn't going to be one of those things where you start from the beginning and say, "Well, when I was five, I fell on my bicycle and then when I was six."
He/She will lead you. but at first more than likely they will just want you to talk and say what is on your mind.
I think the biggest surprise that you will have is that you don't have much time and you don't need to be "prepaired" for anything. If at a later point they ask you to do some things or pay attention to what you are doing, be sure and do that otherwise you are wasting money.
Sort of like, do 3 pushups. You return and you didn't do it. They will tell you again, do 3 pushups. You and they will do this visit after visit unless you say, "Well I can't do it because of this or that."
In reality this is all about "you". IOW, this is about you and not making them happy. Get your money's worth.

The most important thing is not that the therapist is a stranger, but that they are a trained professional. Also realize, that they can offer you more than just their ear. If you in fact suffer from a clinical depression (which is most common among females) the doctor may be able to reccommend an anti depressant that will change your life. If you go to therapy, you can expect to get as much out of it as you are willing to put into it. Depression can feel like the weight of the world sitting on your shoulders.why not go and shed some of that burden? I have gone for depression, myself, and wouldn't be who I am today had i not gone.
The best of luck to you!!
It will help if you allow it to. Anything you attempt to do in life with a negative attitude isnt going to work. The therapist are trained to ask certain questions to get to the root of the problem and get you talking about it. I was nervous when I first started going. I thought the same thing, how is a stranger going to help me? But once I got to talking, I started pouring my guts out. It helped me immensley, but I wanted help. I was so tired of being depressed I was willing to do just about anything. Therapy will only work if you want it to work. The question is are you ready for therapy because if you are then give it a shot. Keep in mind that you will not be told how to handle your problems but simply guide you to help you deal with it yourself. Some people will look at it like what good is that thinking it was there own way of thinking that got them in trouble in the first place. It is more complicated than that because you were probably in a different state on mind when you made your decisions and that makes a difference. Ever make a bad choice when you were angry or depressed. That is the cycle you have to break and know when is the right time to react because timing is everything. You will also come to realize things about yourself that may surprize you. If you decide to go through with it good luck and hope things get better.
therapy for depression or any other mental health concern only really helps those who accept that the problem needs outside input if you really want to progress see your Dr. first and go from there
For some it works very well, for some it does'nt. But it works best for those whose problem is not very serious, or so I've heard. Even if it does'nt completely solve your problem, it will definitely help you. Try it but go to a good therapist (this is important).
Sure does. The shrink gets rich. It can help if you want to get better and you find the right therapist.
Therapists are like other professionals. They are all qualified, but some are just better than others. All licensed beauticians should be good, but there are some you wouldn't want to touch your hair. The same goes for licensed therapists. no it doesnt work they just take large sums of money from you and that makes you even more depressed!
