one of my family members was diagnosed with 'ocd' how common is this and what do u know about it.?

Question:

Answers:
ocd is a form of anxiety disorder. it affects about less than 20% of the population.

you can google it as 'ocd symptoms' and find a lot of info on it.

i have ocd, a mild form and it takes some work to deal with the anxiety.

ocd does not make someone 'crazy', but they have obsessions of some kind....either physcially doing something over and over again (like checking or turning on/off) or thoughts (like hurting others or embarassing sexual deeds).

anxiety is best treated with vigorous excercise, healthier eating (you don't need to be perfect), and a change of negative thoughts into positive ones (using verbal affirmation). these are natural ways to heal ocd.

medication for ocd is not always promising or healthy in the long run. it can cause serious side effects if taken long term, depending on the individual. the reason is because the medication is very strong to help you control your anxiety.
It is cureable. As long as the person performing these "rituals" or "tics" wants to stop. And the worst thing you can do is "enable" the person. If the person asks you to "touch" something to satisfy one of their "tics" don't do it. It is similar to an addiction. Just be there to support the person and provide love to the person.
