Question:
Answers:
When i can't get to sleep, I say to myself, "You could get up and finish ironing that basketful," and I immediately fall asleep. I have told my friends this trick and they say it works for them, too.

Sleeping pills can work.but they are ADDICTIVE.
Try the following steps:
1. Go to bed at the same time every night!
2. Always get up at the same time.regardless of how much sleep you get the night before.
3. If you cannot sleep for more than 15 minutes, get up and go into another room and do something else until you feel sleepy.
4. Do not read, watch tv, etc.. in your bed. (Beds are for sleeping and sex only.)
5. Turn out the lights and relax for at least 15 minutes before you get in the bed. Do not have any caffiene within like 3 hrs. of your bed time (this helps your body relax and be more ready for sleep.the lights, caffiene, etc. keep you awake.)
Making yourself do the above will help your body get back to its natural cycles and you will be able to sleep longer and get the deep REM sleep that is needed for a good nights rest!
Hope this helps!
get a better bed like. the Temper Pedic Swedese sleep system
or Nyquil(R) or Lunesta(R) or just close your eyes and think
and last just stay up until your eyes are really tired(always works 4 me)
a hot bath, herbal, a good book. Try to relax and take calming breaths. If your mind is racing write in a journal so you can release your thoughts before you lay down' i have severe insomnia, and have taken every kind of sleep aid out there. What works best for me is Lunesta with milk at the same time every night. benadryl and tylenol PM and such can create excitability and thats the last thing you want. Newer meds these days, like Ambien, Sonata, Lunesta are non narcotic and non habit forming. call your doc.
Either stop thinking about WHY you can't sleep or take a hot bath before you go to sleep. As the body temp. lowers, you will get sleepy. And eat a few carbs before bed as well. I'm an EX-insomniac, so I know these work.
I use to have the same problem all the time and then my doctor put me on Ambien and it really works. I have no trouble falling asleep now and it doesn't make me feel bad the next day either but it is a bit expensive, I have good insurance and it will only pay for half a month's worth, there might be some less expensive similar out there you just need to go to your regular doctor and ask. Good luck.
