do they put cutters in institutions automaticly or do they wait to see how bad off you are?

Question:
ok i'm thinkinging about getting help with my cutting. i'm 15 if that means anything i just want to know if they will put me in a mental institution automaticly?

Answers:
My experience of the institutional world is being thrown into a local mental ward for a week after coming into emergency for a horribly deep gash. I was incredibly honest about my cutting, fabricating none of the truth and even admitting to cutting everyday and having thoughts of killing myself (I figure I probably wanted the help). I think the doctor court-ordered me because he thought I was at risk for suicide. I was also over 18, and so my parents' wish was no factor at all.
It might be different for you, however, if you come to someone specifically asking for some kind of mental help and no one's convinced you're going to go home and kill yourself. Your parents will have a lot more say in this, and I would think that unless they thought you needed institutionalized it would be unlikely to happen.
Take care and be careful, however. Institutions can be scary as hell, especially the generalized ones. I met schizophrenics who acted like they might kill me in my sleep, terrifyingly violent men with records full of assaults...there are no locks on the doors (unless you're locked in of course) and relatively no privacy. I would talk to someone I thought I could trust with this first, and from there see about finding a counselor, psychotherapist, or group therapy program that would be helpful to you (instead of give you PTSD).
I know this can be scary, confiding in someone, but I wish you the best of luck. I think it's really good that you're wanting to get help for this, because the habit just causes more misery.
Im sure they would if thats what you wanted and believed would help you. Talk to your parents about it.
