If you take Lamictal, what side effects do you experience?

Question:
Let me know if they've lasted or gone away with time. I don't feel any but then again, it's hard to separate the drug with the bipolar.

Answers:
I take lamictal for bipolar. Out of all the different meds I've taken this is the best one. The only side effects I've experienced with lamictal is the occassional headache, which is a small price to pay for my sanity. All the other meds made me feel hollow, emotionless, weight gain.I've been on lamictal for a year now and so far so good. I feel better on lamictal than I have in more than 10 years.
Hope it works for you as well as it's worked for me.
btw, I read your other question regarding suicide/bipolar/depression. Lamictal is known to be particularily effective for chronic depression and for people who are unresponsive to depression meds.

Other Answers:
The most possible side effect is rash. But it becomes observable in the first month of lamictal usage said the doctor and can't be serious during the first month of the trial of the medicine and the rash is curable if it is realised in the early phase. If the rash is observed the medication is ceased. But these kinds of serious skin problems due to lamictal usage is seen 1/1000 they say so just wait and see.The most important is to start with the smallest dose and to increase the dose so slowly that the rash don't occure, like 25mgrams per week is the most suitable amount to raise per week. That's what my doctor said.I'm on my second week and I'm at 50 mgrams rght now.The increase will go on slowly until I get the anti-depressant benefit out of it.Another small side effect is some insomnia effect. That's not a huge insomnia but the doc told me to take the last dose in the day time before it gets dark so that it doesn't cause me insomnia.Lamictal is said to be weight neutral that's why I want it to work out good on me cos I don't wanna face the weight gain any more by switching to other meds like depakote or etc..
take care.
