i live w/ my mom and not enoughf $ to afford my own place ,my mom comes in my room at night , all hours , and in the morning wen im trying to sleep , wen i ask her to leave she says its her place so she has the rite , but even wen shes not in there i am paranoid she will walk in so i have troubles sleeping ,i have nowhere to go and Lots of sterio equipment if i go to a shelter she will take it , plus she got me a cat wen i was younger and sezz she will not let me take it even if i could find a place , shes a socil worker and wen she suposed to be working she calls home on her company phone all day , and if i dont answer it i get in trouble , plus she comes home most of the day she suposed to be working, 1 time i thought i was alone this stress has goten to me and so i punchd a pillow ,she was peeking around the corner and i herd her scream like she was being murderd and grab my arm screaming "dont ever hit my things or youl have to leave" , until i do, isnt there some laws agaist this

It sounds like you have a very controlling, manipulative mother. This is abuse, and is every bit as bad as an abusive spouse! What she is doing is not necessarily against the law, but she is doing damage and you are well within your rights to get out of there!

By all means, you need to go to a shelter. Do you have a trusted friend to whom you could give the stereo equipment, cat, and any other personal belongings to hold onto until you get on your feet? Smuggle it out of the house if necessary.

When I left my husband, I set up a checking account for myself before I left. Then I sent a lot of my personal things to a friend, who gladly held onto them for me. Then I took my son and left for a shelter.

It's never easy, and from the sound of things, she isn't going to let go easily, but mother or not, you are going to have to put your foot down.

I had to live in Section 8 housing for three years before I could get my feet back under me. It was hell, but I am so much stronger for it.

Babe, its time to go. If you are over the age of 18 there must be some avenue that you can take to get out. Try finding a roomate, many people are seeking roomates. If you chose a roomate have a lock installed on your door. Your mental health is more important than having a new roomate because once it (your mental health) is gone, you will never get it back. If you are under the age of 18 and cannot leave the living arrangement, seek counseling or show up at her place of work and talk to another social worker (make sure she sees you:). When she questions why you did this, tell her exactly how you feel and don't back down. As for the cat, telll her he croaked (dig a hole in the back yard for the body, besides she won't dig it up unless she's wicked loony) and sneak him out the backdoor.
