what does depression do to someone sexually?

Question:

Answers:
depression usually makes you lose interest in the things you previously enjoyed, which most often includes sex.
As one person already mentioned, if you are bipolar, you could have increased interest in sex.
Meds for depression can have the side affect of lowering your sex drive, but that is not true for everyone and not for every drug. I have never experienced that.

Other Answers:
generally lowers the drive, just as the drugs to "cure" depression do
It usually lowers your sex drive, unless you're bipolar, in which case, it would do both.

If you think that you're depressed, though, you should get to a doc. You don't have to feel that way, and neither do any of your loved ones.
Depression makes person uninterested in sexual activity.
Sometimes it can supress your desire for sex and make it seem that you are not interested in sex at all. See your doctor if you feel you are depressed he is the only one that can help.
Often, it decreses their libido. Sometimes, people use sex as a means of telling themselves that people like them. Other times, there is no change.
Depression can do one of two things:
a) it can depress the sex drive.
b) it can cause someone to increase sexual activity because it's the only way they feel anything at all.

Usually it's A.
I'd imagine it would dull the persons whose depressed, sex life or it could have the opposite effect of an individual acting out sexually due to their depression.
In depression person, loses interest from all activities, so naturally person loses interest from sex also. when you keep male person on ssri ( serotonin specific receptors inhibitors), male person has delayed ejeculation.
well i know when my ex was depressed he had no sexual drive at all and he would get pissed when i would bug him. when i get depressed i want to have sex all the time cause it is one place that i can feel happy. i guess it effects everyone differently.
it can lower or increase libido,or promiscuousness or be a source of angst due to insecurities and altered perceptions of body image, feelings of unattractiveness or hideousness ,which are just manifestations of low self esteem or worthless feelings that tend to go hand in hand with helpless and hopeless feelings.
it all depends on the individuals response to depression, there are many options, exercise, following an established routine, meditating, reading, overeating, drinking or promiscuity, giving in to self pity and losing the will to live or the joy in life, blaming others and causing conflict, or persevering. it is up to the individual and his or her beliefs systems and values, coping skills, and habits of mind what depression does to someone sexually, physically or spiritually, also perception has a alot to do with it, depression does nothing, we ,humans do ,to ourselves ,we control our feelings or allow them to control us.
Everyone reacts to depression differently but it does affect your sex life, you don't feel attractive, you don't have energy, you don't even want to get out of bed, and you shut people out. So most likely a person who is depressed is not having sex.
Most often I hear that depression leads to a lack of interest in sex. With me it was the opposite. When I was depressed, I would have sex with anyone I found attractive (and sometimes anyone I FOUND...).

Actually it depnds on what their depressed about. Sometimes you don't want to see someone or it's not that you don't want to see someone, your scared to see someone. Scared of rejection, if they'll abuse you. And at the same time, you really do one to see someone. its mixed emotions. You can email me at Cedez92@yahoo.com
