I do something that sounds pretty stupid, but it works.
Put your hand in front of you or to the side, at about chest level with your palm facing down and your fingers together. Then slowly push your hand down, like you're pushing all the bad emotions down. You can't totally get rid of them because you need to feel them sooner or later or you'll explode, but it can at least calm you down enough to think rationally.
This isn't an instant fix though.you need to do it repeatedly to train your brain what it means.

It has been my experience that meditation works to calm me down. Mantra recitation is a good practice. It works better the more I use it. With regular practice, I find I am able to drop whatever is bothering me before it becomes "settled" into my conciousness. There are many websites about meditation and mantras. I would recommend reciting a short positive affirmation a few hundred times. I believe that this will help you find peace.
