Bupropion Hydrochloride, anti-depressant - looking for feedback?

Question:
I'm not looking for technical information, I'd like to hear from people who were or are on this medicine .. how effective has it been for you? Did you like it, have any side effects when you started? My doctor's suggested I change from Zoloft to this, so I'd like to know what other people's experience of it has been like.

Answers:
Bupropion Hydrochloride is sold under the brand names Wellbutrin and Zyban. It works differently than many other antidepressants and often reduces appetite or causes drymouth as a side effect ( it is also used to help some people quit smoking).

It is chemically unrelated to tricyclics or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Instead it functions as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor and a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. For this reason, it often works on people who have had no luck with Zoloft/Paxil/Prozac and other similar drugs.

I have had very good experience with it after no luck with Zoloft, having lost weight when i first went on it. The worst side effect I have is mild to moderate dry mouth , which is handled by drinking more water, which I need anyway.

Other Answers:
I tried Bupropion. It gave me horrible hot flashes so I quit taking it. I am currently on CItalopram (Celexa) and it is working well so far. The problem with anti-depressants is they effect everyone differently so until you try it it is hard to know which, if any, side effects you will have. Good luck!
