If someone has a conditions like bipolar manic depression, agoraphobia and are pregnant, what meds R ok?

Question:
can a person with all of these problems still take the meds that are prescribed while they are pregnant? i don't know all of meds she takes, but depakote, valium , lithium, are some of the meds she has been on.

Answers:
Generally, no a person shouldn't continue with those meds if possible.

Prescribed drugs are a risk to the developing fetus.
Some drugs that have been considered safe for years are proving to be otherwise (such as Paxil which is now linked with heart defects in babies)

Because pregnant women generally tend to avoid taking medications when pregnant, not enough studies have been done to deem drugs "safe" for a baby.

If the health of the mother is at risk, the doctor and patient must make the best decision for all involved. After all, if the health of the mother is compromised that will also have detrimental effects on the developing baby as well.

If you have the specific names of the drugs, your local pharmacist will be able to tell you more, but often the books will say, "unknown risk". simply because not enough pregnant women have risked taking the drug to be sure of the results.

Other Answers:
ASK YOUR DOCTOR!! DUH THAT"S HIS JOB!

In general most people on these kinds of medicine are also on birth control, for a reason.
Really tho it's all up to her and her doctor and the risks they are willing to take.

i would not trust it most meds have not even been tested on pregnant women cause the risks There is a lot of good info on this subject right here.
